Absolutely horrible sound... It's a wonder that he's managed to retain listeners' interest and amass such a hefty following for a year, but his music is so vapid, obnoxious and destitute of any originality or artistic merit. Seeing as his work caters to the lowest common denominator, I can't say I'm too surprised at the size of his fanbase, and the curtain of anonymity (which was drawn back long ago) certainly adds to the allure, but at the end of the day he has more worth in his branding/image and DJ events than the substance of his music, implying there is any. Tiesto = Forever!
Personally the music is catchy and really enjoyable. I quite enjoy listening to it, but the true reason I enjoy supporting Chris is the brand he built. Marshmello is a 10/10 perfect setup for the products that is being put out under its name. The merchandise is well designed, affordable, and appealing. The mysterious who-is-behind-the-mask idea is extremely successful. Collaborations with Logic, Selena Gomez, Lil Peep, and Khalid are big names with even bigger results as per recent success of each single put out. And finally the collaboration with Fortnite was iconic, pulling in a total audience of 10 Million active players who attended the in-game Concert that was put out about a week ago. As a business geek who sincerely enjoys seeing how executives run their companies and advertise their brands, I can certainly say that I am mesmerized by the technique here. I congratulate Chris on his successful marketing campaign and I look forward to listening to future music including the 'Joytime 3' album.
Marshmello is genius, but for so young audience. I don't see the point of absolutely hating him like a lot of people on many sites. He isn't my favorite and I don't think he has a very unique sound, but he definitely doesn't deserve to be ripped on. He re-branded himself and became hugely popular which is not a bad thing. If I remember correctly he has done a bit of charity and giving back, which is more than most producers/DJs do and earns him a spot in my good-dude book. That being said, I don't think I would ever go to show off his (specifically for him), because that is not my favorite genre to see live. All my opinion though.
