Carta (formerly eShares, Inc.) - is a technology company that specializes in capitalization table management and valuation software. It offers an ownership and equity management platform. The company enables seed-stage to pre-IPO companies to manage equity electronically with the participation of their shareholders, employees, auditors, and legal counsel. It digitizes paper stock certificates along with stock options, warrants, and derivatives to create a real-time image of who owns what at a startup.
Carta is a Palo Alto-based technology company and was founded in 2012 by Henry Ward and Manu Kumar, in addition, Manu Kumar originally came up with the idea and recruited Henry to be the CEO. Carta began when founder Manu Kumar realized that while purchases for public companies result in an online transaction, when an employee, investor, or advisor gets options in a private company they still receive a paper stock certificate. Carta was built to end this process.
